"Buying" and trading for coupons works for me, and I'll explain why. Not all regions get the same coupons every week. So, using these two methods, you can acquire coupons that normally would not be available to you.
Now, you don't technically buy the coupons, as the manufacturers ban this. What you do is pay a "handling fee" for the service of the clipping service. I have used a few different services, and have had great luck with all of them! Here is a short list of some services:
The Coupon Clippers
The Coupon Master
Coupons & Things by Dede
And then there is always Ebay!
The Coupon Clippers and The Coupon Master specialize in individual coupons, while Coupons & Things by Dede tends to focus on selling whole inserts. You can find both on Ebay.
The advantages of ordering from one of these places, is that if you are preparing for a great sale/coupon match-up, you can order a bunch of the same coupon to help stock up!
Trading is a bit different. No funds are exchanged. One of the most popular methods of a trade is the coupon train. A group is formed to mail an envelope full of coupons to each other. You pull out the ones you can use and replace them with the same number of coupons you cannot use. Then mail it along to the next train rider. Great if you like surprises.
Another great way to trade is to join a forum such as Hot Coupon World, Frugal Village, or Refund Sweepers. These are great sites for those who use coupons!
I love to order coupons for items I know will stand up well to stockpiling. My latest deal was paying $10 for 77 coupons, that when doubled, will provide my family with 77 FREE bottles of Snapple, Sobe, and Lipton Iced Tea. So, that was 7.7 cents per bottle!
Now, that works for ME!

Thats great! I have bought some from ebay...or rather paid the shipping and handling...lol
It is so frustrating when some one tells you there is a coupon for something in the inserts and your paper didn't have one like it...
Thanks.
